Members of the Croatian Army and employees of the Ministry of Defense participated in the second ultramarathon race "Nexe Croatia Backyard Ultra" at the end of last week. The race started at Lake Lapovac near Našice.

The ultramarathon was organized by the recreational running association "Nexe Team" from Našice, with the support of the Ministry of Defense. A total of 136 competitors from eight different countries participated, including 15 members of the Croatian Army and employees of the Ministry of Defense.

The competition is unique in that competitors must run 6706 meters within one hour. Each completed lap leaves the remaining time for recovery before the next lap. The race is an elimination type, until only one competitor remains on the track.

Gjula Sarosi from Hungary won this year's race, covering 208 km (31 laps). Among the Croatian representatives, Master Sergeant Darko Dolovski was the most successful with 161 km (24 laps), which earned him 5th place.

Licensed race
"Nexe Croatia Backyard Ultra" is licensed by the world Backyard Federation based in the United States and is included in the calendar of the Croatian Athletics Federation.

This ultramarathon race in Croatia is unique because until now no similar race has had a team representing the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of any country.
