In the morning of August 27, 2024, around 6 o'clock, police officers conducted a preventive monitoring action in cooperation with educational institutions, aimed at increasing the safety of the youngest participants in traffic. The action was aimed at ensuring the safe transport of high school students from Novi Zagreb on a planned trip to Prague.

On Većeslava Holjevca Avenue, the officers of the Zagreb Police Department from the II. traffic police station conducted a detailed inspection of a bus with Varaždin license plates. The bus was owned by a legal entity and was driven by a 54-year-old driver. At the request of the school, the police carried out a technical inspection of the vehicle and breathalyzer testing of the driver before allowing the trip to begin.

Monitoring and breathalyzer results
The driver's breathalyzer test revealed the presence of alcohol in the blood, with a concentration of 1.22 g/kg, which is far above the allowed limits. This value indicates a serious violation of traffic regulations, endangering the safety of all participants in traffic, especially the students who were supposed to be transported on the trip. Due to these results, the driver was immediately removed from traffic, and a misdemeanor report will be filed against him.

Student safety
After the driver was removed from traffic, another driver took over the bus to ensure the safety of the students and the smooth continuation of the trip to Prague. The new driver took control of the vehicle after all the necessary safety checks were completed, enabling the planned trip to proceed without further issues.

Traffic violations and their consequences
The driver who was removed from traffic will face misdemeanor proceedings for driving under the influence of alcohol. Such violations of traffic regulations can result in severe penalties, including high fines, a ban on driving, and even revocation of the driver's license. In the case of a bus driver transporting students, the responsibility is even greater as he is responsible for the safety of multiple people.

Such incidents highlight the importance of regular and thorough traffic controls, especially when it comes to the transportation of children and young people. The police will continue such actions to ensure the highest possible safety in traffic and to prevent similar cases in the future.
